Athletics
Athletics is coached to all school years in PE lessons and also in 3 after school clubs. We have a highly qualified and enthusiastic group of coaches who encourage boys and girls of all abilities to excel and enjoy.
In Years 3-5 the basic jumps, principles of throwing, sprints and middle distance running are taught. In Years 6-8 the technical events like shot, javelin and discus are introduced.
All pupils try to achieve “standards” in athletics and these count towards Sports Day.
We attend 6 meets during the summer term and these include meetings at Cambridge University, Norwich UEA, Bedford International Stadium and The Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. We also attend the Suffolk AAAs Championships and boast numerous County Champions in a variety of disciplines.
Competition at this level allows our pupils to compete at the very highest level and we proud to say we have had numerous pupils win medals at the National Prep Schools Finals. In 2012 3 of our pupils reached the Nationals, with Under 13 high jumper India Lawson winning a silver medal.
Brandeston Hall also host the North Suffolk Schools Championships and have the astonishing record of winning the boys event 6 years out of 7 and the girls event 8 years running. In 2012 we came 3rd in both the Suffolk Boys and Girls County Team Championships.
