Brandeston Hall Take Overall Best Team and Win The Williams Shield at the Anglian Cross Country Championships

Published: Tuesday 29 March, 2011

On Sunday, 27th March, the annual Anglian Cross Country Championships took place on the grounds of Framlingham College where 25 East Anglian Preparatory Schools, pitted their best runners against each other in events for boys and girls at U10, U11, U12 and U13 age groups.

After the disappointment of last year’s cancellation due to bad weather, we were so fortunate to get a beautiful spring day with ideal running conditions and perfect views of the castle and the superbly kept college grounds from the start/finish line for any new visitors to enjoy.

The under 10 competition was a keen race to get things underway with Lottie Summers from Brandeston Hall winning the race literally by a country mile. It is notable that Lottie sprinted the whole way around the track without fading at any time.  Lottie's brother Jolyon Summers was up against tough competion in the Under 11 boys' race and he finished strongly in second place to a very strong runner from Town Close in Norfolk.

Alex Lawrence of Brandeston Hall performed superbly in the boys' Under 13 event, winning by a good margin. There were lots of other strong runs from all the Brandeston team as every place counted towards the end goal.

After an excellent tea supplied by John Betham and his catering staff, everyone gathered in the Sports Hall for the presentation of individual medals and team shields by the Headmaster of Framlingham College, Mr Paul Taylor.

Brandeston Hall picked up the overall best team trophy, The Williams Shield as a result of the combined placings of all members of their teams. This was a fantastic achievement leaving all at Brandeston Hall and Framlingham College extremely proud of the runners’ efforts.  Brandeston Hall have a number of Suffolk county runners now and that bodes well for the future of Cross-Country running at the school.

We look forward to hosting the 35th tournament next year.
