Salters' Festival of Chemistry at University of East Anglia
On Tuesday 15th May, Brandeston Hall took four Year 7 Scientists to the Salters' Festival of Chemistry at the UEA in Norwich. Emily Lewis, Freddie Green,Rupert Dean and Joshua Butler took part in two Chemistry challenges.

Firstly a forensic investigation involved the students in a series of tests to try and find out who had carried out the murder of a man on a remote moor. They undertook chromatography tests on ink from the suspects' bank statements and tested samples of salts found on the body to see if they matched those on the suspects clothes.

After lunch, the students had to devise a way of cooling distilled water from room temperature to exactly 10.5 degrees centigrade, and then repeat it in a time of one minute, whilst being watched by the judges. Finally, they watched a demonstration entitled 'Kitchen Chemistry', with lots of explosions and exciting experiments!
It was a challenging and stimulating day for our aspiring scientists which they thoroughly enjoyed.
