The Headmaster
Firstly, let me introduce myself as the Headmaster of Framlingham College. I joined the College in September 2009 from The King’s School, Canterbury, where I had been Lower Master (Deputy Head) for five years, having spent the previous 13 years at Tonbridge School in Kent. Since arriving at Framlingham, I have been struck by the energy and vitality of the pupils here, and also by the warmth of the welcome that we have received from all quarters of the community. The boys and girls are happy here, and I believe we have some exciting years ahead.
Framlingham College is a co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 13-18. The most common entry points to the College are at 13 (Year 9) and 16 (Sixth Form, when we have a number of new students joining us), but it is not uncommon for pupils to join at other stages. Our prep school, Brandeston Hall, is situated on a beautiful site about 3 miles from the College, and caters for pupils from 2½-13. Again, pupils join at a number of stages, with a significant number joining each year at 11 (Year 7) before moving on to the College at 13.
At Framlingham we are interested in the development of the whole person as well as the examination candidate, and we encourage our pupils to open their minds, to aim high in all they do, and to make the most of the opportunities available to them. The College has a fine record in stretching the most able pupils, while our ‘value-added’ rating for those pupils who are not automatically destined to achieve A grades at GCSE and A Level stands alongside the very best in the country. What is certain is that all pupils can be assured of the highest professional quality of provision and care in all areas of school life, whatever their strengths or interests. Individual programmes of study provide each pupil with the knowledge and expertise to realise their full academic and personal potential, and the majority of our leavers go on to top British universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
We are in the process of developing this website, which launched in September 2010, but in the meantime I hope you find it informative and helpful, and that it gives you a flavour of what the College has to offer. If you are not familiar with Framlingham there is, of course, no substitute for a personal visit, and I strongly encourage you to come to see us. This could be either on one of our Open Days or by private appointment, and I invite you to contact our Admissions Registrar, Miss Emma Rutterford, on 01728 723789 or by email at admissions at framcollege dot co dot uk. It is only through such a visit that you can fully appreciate the purposeful, energetic and happy atmosphere here. I can assure you of a warm welcome, and am confident that you will be impressed!
