Welcome to our website, and I hope it gives you an insight into the dynamic and forward-looking community that is Framlingham College. This is a school that is interested in the development of the whole person as well as the examination candidate, and we encourage our pupils to open their minds, to aim high in all they do, and to make the most of the opportunities available to them. The College is a co-educational day and boarding school that comprises our Prep School (2-13) in the beautiful surroundings of Brandeston Hall (about 3 miles from the Senior School site), and the Senior School (13-18) which is set in stunning surroundings in the market town of Framlingham. Pupils join at various stages, with a number joining at Year 7 before progressing to the Senior School for Year 9.
The College is absolutely thriving and prides itself on producing well-rounded, articulate and very well-educated young men and women. Professional, enthusiastic and supportive teachers champion a culture of creativity in all areas of the curriculum, nurturing inventive, fearless thinkers and equipping young people with the skills and the character to flourish in the fast-evolving adult world of the 21st century. All pupils enjoy high quality facilities and staff input at all levels, whether top set or bottom set, A team or C team, in or out of the classroom, with a view to enabling and encouraging each pupil to be the best that they can be in every context.
We have a fine record in stretching the most able pupils and we know that the bright child will do as well here as they will anywhere else, while our ‘value-added’ rating for those pupils who are not automatically destined to achieve top grades at GCSE and A Level stands alongside the very best in the country. The majority of our leavers go on to top British universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. All pupils are assured of the highest professional quality of provision and highly individualised care in all areas of school life, whatever their strengths or interests.
The College is, at its core, a deeply pastoral school; the boys and girls are happy here, and I believe we have some exciting years ahead. When I first joined the College (from The King’s School, Canterbury, where I had been Deputy Head, having spent the previous 13 years at Tonbridge School) I was immediately struck by the energy and vitality of the pupils, and also by the warm, calm-but-purposeful feel that permeated the whole community. Framlinghamians leave here with a strong sense of self and a keen awareness of – and sensitivity to – the world around them. The adult world that they will be entering will be a very different one from a generation ago, and we want our pupils to leave here excited – rather than daunted – by the challenges that it will hold.
I hope you find this website informative and helpful, and that it gives you a flavour of what the College has to offer. If you are not familiar with Framlingham there is, of course, no substitute for a personal visit and I strongly encourage you to come to see us. This could be either on one of our Open Days or by private appointment, and I invite you to study the admissions area of the website for further detail. It is only through such a visit that you can fully appreciate the purposeful, energetic and happy atmosphere here. I can assure you of a warm welcome, and am confident that you will be impressed!
