Science Week is always eagerly awaited by both pupils and staff members. This week was no exception and it was filled with a truly outstanding array of events and experiences.

Our pupils undertook a variety of science based workshops from alka-seltzer rockets and K’Nex bridges to dinosaur digs. They were also able to participate in some interactive educational shows; the RNLI highlighted the importance of beach safety, Lavenham Falconry flew owls whilst Lion Learners introduced pupils to a wide menagerie of vertebrates and invertebrates. Matthew Tosh, a professional pyrotechnician, gave us the science behind fireworks and CSI team from Pulse education had our Year 6 and 7 pupils investigating a murder.

Pupils also travelled to the senior school for a morning of science experiments; Kerr farm near Easton to undertake crop studies and to Framlingham Mere with Suffolk Wildlife Trust to study meadow invertebrates.

Further afield our Year 1 and 2 pupils had a day out at Minsmere to learn about coastal birds; Year 3 immersed themselves in Norfolk’s Dinosaur Adventure Park; Year 4 fed animals at Colchester Zoo, Year 5 studied waterfowl at Pensthorpe, Year 6 learnt about the origins of chocolate and undertook botanical drawings at the Cambridge Botanical Gardens while Year 7 headed off to Essex Outdoors to participate in a myriad of outdoor pursuits.

The week proved to be a huge success and Mrs Moon, Head of Science at the Prep School is now busy reading the fantastic Science Week diaries that the pupils wrote during their fun filled week.
